5:00 – 5:30 PM · before the bell

Volunteer

Carnival only works because of community participation. Two hours of your time goes a long way.

Shifts include helping with setup, running a carnival game, bagging cotton candy, selling wristbands at the gazebo, or breaking things down at the end. Adults don't need a wristband — you're supervising the fun.

Questions & answers

A beloved school tradition and huge community celebration. Kicks off at 5:30 PM and ends at 8:30 PM. Expect traditional carnival games and prizes, inflatable obstacle courses, musical cakes, face-painting, balloon animals, tattoos, and a photo booth. Food trucks on-site — tables nearby, or bring a picnic blanket for the grassy area. A flat fee buys each kid a wristband and they can move freely between games all night.
Our 3rd annual Carnival pregame — for kiddos in 2nd grade and younger only. Games and a few inflatables will be open, plus Cake-a-Palooza in the auditorium. It gives the younger kids a chance to check out Carnival before the older crowd arrives.
No. Adults do not need to purchase a wristband. We need you to supervise the games as a volunteer! Sign up on Konstella.
Buy online with a credit card via Konstella, or at the school gazebo using cash only. Gazebo schedule: before school May 12–15 (7:45–8:15 AM), after school May 12–14 (2:20–2:50 PM), and May 15 day-of 2:30–7:00 PM. Online purchases can be picked up at the gazebo during the same windows or at day-of will call.
We want every child to enjoy Carnival regardless of ability to pay. Please contact school counselor Jenny Morgan at jmorgan1@pps.net.
In addition to unlimited games and activities, each wristband includes one cotton candy, one popcorn, and one donut. Wristbands do not cover food purchased from third-party vendors (pizza, burgers, shaved ice, etc.) or Fairy Sparkle hair services.
A new 2026 food-truck lineup: Stoopid Burger (burgers), ASH Woodfired Pizza (slices and salads), and the returning Brain Freeze Shaved Ice.
A commemorative shirt is available each year — the online store will be open May 1–17, 2026. Shirts are delivered to your kid's backpack during the last week of school. (Link coming soon.)
Carnival's primary function is to bring our community together — it is not a traditional fundraiser. The committee prices wristbands to cover event expenses. Any additional proceeds go directly to the PTA general fund to enhance school programs.
Carnival relies on parents and community participation. Consider volunteering to set up, run a game, bag cotton candy, or sell wristbands. Or donate a store-bought cake or baked good for Cake-a-Palooza — drop-off in the auditorium day-of. Questions: cake@supportabernethy.org.
Abernethy Elementary School — 2421 SE Orange Ave, Portland, OR 97214. On the school grounds and inside the cafeteria and gym.
Rain or shine — this is Portland! Many activities will have cover, including the inflatables on the covered blacktop.
Street parking around the school. Walk, bike, or carpool encouraged.
